トリニダード・トバゴ出身スティールパン奏者 Michael “Manish” Robinson のプロフィールと活動をご紹介します。
トリニダード・トバゴ出身のスティールパン奏者・制作者・教育者。1993年、宮崎県フェニックス・シーガイア・リゾート（旧シーガイア）「オーシャンドーム」のスティールパンバンドメンバーとして来日。約1年間の演奏活動後、日本を拠点に独立し、本格的な音楽活動を開始する。
日本で初めてトリニダード出身奏者としてスティールパン教室を開設。小学校・中学校の芸術鑑賞会を中心に、これまで250校以上でコンサート・ワークショップを実施。NHK「天才てれびくんMAX」では約1年間、生放送で子どもたちにスティールパンを指導し、日本におけるスティールパン普及のきっかけの一つとなった。
また、DREAMS COME TRUE、藤木直人などのコンサートでスティールパン指導を担当。現在は埼玉県三郷市、高円寺、伊東、横浜、福岡など全国各地でバンド指導・育成を行っている。
演奏は少人数編成から大編成まで対応可能。企業イベント、学校公演、コンサート、お祭り、結婚式、ワークショップなど、さまざまなシーンでスティールパンの魅力を届けている。
Michael “Manish” Robinson is a steelpan performer, builder, and educator from Trinidad and Tobago. In 1993, he came to Japan as a member of the steelpan band at the Ocean Dome in Seagaia (Phoenix Seagaia Resort, Miyazaki). After one year of performing, he settled in Japan and began his professional music career.
Manish was the first Trinidadian artist to open a steelpan school in Japan. He has performed and conducted workshops at more than 250 elementary and junior high schools across the country. He also appeared on NHK’s live TV program Tensai Terebikun MAX, teaching children steelpan every week for a year, which helped introduce steelpan to a wider Japanese audience.
He has supported major artists such as DREAMS COME TRUE and Naohito Fujiki as a steelpan instructor and musical advisor. Today, Manish leads and teaches steelpan bands in Misato (Saitama), Koenji, Ito, Yokohama, Fukuoka, and other areas in Japan.
Manish performs in a variety of formats, from small ensembles to large steelpan orchestras, and is available for concerts, events, weddings, school programs, and workshops.
